Marc Von Essen - Game 7 Founder Coach Von Essen was part of the last class to play for legendary coach Frank Morris at St. Agnes High School. A native of Rockville Centre, he went on to play college ball at Nassau Community College and was a member of the NYPD Olympic Team. While coaching at South Side High School, Marc was known for turning out some of the best point guards on Long Island. His intensity and knowledge of the game creates an ideal atmosphere for learning at all of our camps. He lectures at many camps in the metro area during the summer including all Game 7 Camps. Dagan Nelson - Head Coach New Paltz Universityhttp://athletics.newpaltz.edu/mbasketball/coach.cfm As a player, Dagan shot over 50% from 3point range in college. After spending 2 years coaching NYU men’s basketball, Coach Nelson jumped to the Division I ranks as an assistant coach at EKU. He is then traveled back to Long Island and became an assistant for Stony Brook University. He is currently the Head Coach at New Paltz University.
Darius Burton - Baldwin High School Boy’s Varsity The 2004 Nassau County Coach of the Year & former Hofstra star brings his exciting coaching philosophy to the Game 7 Basketball Camp at the Freeport Recreation Center. Burton’s Baldwin teams are always top ranked and they love to play “run & gun” basketball. Coach Burton’s Game 7 Camps now draw some of the best young players from the area.
Jim Pitman - John Adams High School Coach Pitman has been a part of our camps for many years. His basketball knowledge is immeasurable. He is currently head varsity coach at John Adams High School in Queens . Adam Ginsberg - University of Massachusetts Coach Ginsberg is a Baldwin native and currently resides in Boston and coaches at Northeastern University. Coach Ginsberg’s love for the game of basketball combined with his passion to teach younger players makes him a great asset to the Game 7 staff.
Meghan Moran – Kellenberg Memorial High School –Girls Varsity Coach Coach Moran is currently the girl’s varsity head coach at Kellenberg Memorial High School, but is best known for her play at Sacred Heart High School and Adelphi University where she racked up very impressive stats & honors. In high school, Coach Moran was named USA Honorable Mention All American, All State, & All League. Her team also won a Catholic League State Championship in her senior year. At Adelphi, she was able to continue her success as a 4-year starter, All-NYCAC player, and scored over 1,000 points in her career.
Tim Maloney - University of Massachusettes Former High School coach of Florida all star guard Teddy Dupay, Tim has coached with Billy Donavan at the University of Florida. As a Long Beach native, he returns home every summer to teach at a Game 7 camp.
Brian Laux has been a part of Game 7 since it was founded in 1997. Coach Laux played for legendary high school coach Frank Morris at St. Agnes. He was a part of the New York State Championship team in 1979 and they were ranked #9 in the country. He was voted St. Agnes MVP in 1981 and had a high school record of 66-12 while playing some of the most competitive high school basketball in the country. He went on to have a successful collegiate career at Union College. Coach Laux has always been giving back to the community through basketball. From 1985-1999 he was assigned to the best teams in the St. Agnes CYO program where he won several county championships. He is currently the JV girls coach at St. Leo the Great in New Jersey. Brian's father (Don) was an MVP at Hofstra University in 1959 and has coached high school and college ball for over 40 years on Long Island.
